Get The Help & Support You Need

Professional and confidential support

Help is available…you do not need to struggle on your own. Focused psychological strategies can help with many different concerns such as depression or mood disorders, anxiety disorders, relationship problems, adjustment issues, family conflict, personality disorders, life crisis or trauma.

Focused psychological strategies can also help with positive events such as choosing a direction in life or reaching your full potential.

Perhaps you are experiencing significant events in your life such as getting married and starting a family, leaving home for the first time or coming to terms with the death of a loved one, or perhaps financial stress. Having a professionally qualified counsellor to guide you through your concerns can be immensely useful.

Make appointment with your Medical Practitioner

Tell the Receptionist you need an appointment to get a referral for counselling (they need to book a longer session). Your Medical Practitioner can either email referral to rhonda@mediationcoachingcounselling.com.au OR fax referral to 02 6013 9646 OR you can email the referral to rhonda@mediationcoachingcounselling.com.au. It is necessary to provide the referral to Dr Rhonda Emonson (PhD) at Mediation, Coaching and Counselling at least 48 hours prior to your first session so that a file can be made up for you.

If more than one person is attending for counselling, each will need their own referral. For further information on Medicare rebates please visit: www.servicesaustralia.gov.au

How many sessions?

If you have a referral, the amount of sessions will depend on what your Medical Practitioner suggests. Generally, plan for about six sessions once a fortnight, although it is often possible to have 10 session in a calender year. If a particular appointment time suits your other commitments, it is best to book several sessions ahead at that time and this can be done online for up to 4 weeks ahead of your first session.  After the sixth session, we discuss whether further sessions would be helpful and at that time, I write to your Medical Practitioner giving him/her an update on your progress. To secure your session, the fee must be paid at the time of the booking (unless you are being bulk billed).

Each person is different, there are no rules about the number of sessions although we aim for less, rather than long term sessions. Each session is 50 minutes in duration.

How much will it cost?

Between now and 30 September 2020, the fee structure has been completely changed to support those that have been financially impacted by COVID-19. Many have been affected emotionally, financially with routines and relationships experiencing turmoil. This adds additional stress. There are two options now, each to support you accessing professional counselling.

OPTION ONE: With a referral from your Medical Practitioner, your session will be bulk billed through Medicare. That is, there will be no out of pocket expenses for you. BUT, the referral must be received by Dr Emonson at least 48 hours prior to your first session. Sessions can be booked by clicking on  ‘Booking’. Please note, each person attending the session and needing a rebate will have to have their own referral. If sessions are booked and cancelled within 7 days of the booked session OR you do not attend, a cancellation fee (50%) of the session fee will be charged -this is because there is a high demand for service.

OPTION TWO: For those that prefer not to have a referral from their Medical Practitioner, the same professional service is available. However, without a referral you will take responsibility for the full session fee. This option is also suitable for international clients who want a high standard of support. If sessions are booked and cancelled within 7 days of the booked session OR you do not attend, you will be charged a cancellation fee and this will need to be paid prior to a subsequent session-this is because there is a high demand for service.  Session needs to be paid online to confirm booking. Sessions can be booked by clicking on  ‘Booking’.
